It Started With One Couple
New Song Community Church (NSCC) and New Song Urban Ministries (NSUM) have a long standing partnership with the Sandtown community. When Allan and Susan Tibbels, two Caucasian suburbanites, decided to take up residence in, and serve the Sandtown community, their goal was simple: to come along side and love the people and to embrace the community’ s problems as their own. The community of Sandtown is 72 square blocks. It might be impossible to find a block where New Song has not had a positive impact on someone’s life. Not long after their arrival, they met community leaders such as Elder C.W Harris, Rev. Amelia Harris, Laverne Stokes, Jane Johnson, Linda Paige, and others, and determined the most pressing needs in the community were to address housing, education, healthcare, and jobs.
Building on the Past
It is the desire NSCC and NSUM to build on the foundations of the past by working toward a legacy that lies in the future. We will strive to maintain and create a programmatic atmosphere that is dependent on interpersonal relationships that lead to life-long partnerships.
